About Us

The beginning...

With friends coming over for dinner one evening, I decided to cook a traditional Spanish seafood soup called Zarzuela, one of my favourite recipes. The dish went down a storm and our friends remarked that I should bottle it and sell it as it was so good.

The idea stayed with me, why not? After all, having just retired from my former business life, my wife Arleen and I were looking to set up a small business to keep us occupied, so we decided to start selling our soups on farmers markets throughout Warwickshire.

Initially business was slow as our soups were all made using meat stocks which limited our customer base as many of our potential customers were vegetarians. Although the soups were generally well received we quickly realised that if we were to grow the business we had to start making the soups with a vegetable stock. Also the vegetarian and gluten free options offered by our competitors were limited and so there was an obvious gap in the fresh soup sector. It wasn't long until I had worked up a recipe for my own stock made with vegetables sourced from local producers - fresh, tasty, gluten free and full of goodness!

Suddenly demand for our products increased and we had to take the decision to move to bigger premises. In May 2009 we moved from our temporary base at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire back to farm based production and The Soupery is now housed in the lovely refurbished 1800c Shire and Carriage house here on Burton Fields Farm where customers are welcome to visit and buy direct from us, often while the soup is still piping hot!

Today...

In order to satisfy demand we now attend over 40 farmers markets each month throughout the Heart of England in Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Leicestershire, The Thames Valley and at many Country shows, events and exhibitions. Our soups are also stocked in farm shops, deli’s, restaurants, cafe-bars, tearooms and in supermarkets and convenience stores such as Budgens, Spar and Londis.

Throughout the year we offer approximately eight or nine different flavours at any one time. These are our five favourites complimented by a further three or four seasonal flavours which vary depending on availability of produce.

We only use local high quality produce and ingredients grown here on the farm or sourced from within a few miles of us. They are picked and delivered in to us daily to ensure that our soups are the freshest around and we use no additives or preservatives in our cooking processes. Food simply doesn’t get any fresher!
